I Mosaic, con questo Miniatures, sembra vogliano dimostrarci quanto proressive si possa fare in meno di 3 minuti. Questo album ,è infatti composto da 40 brani, e nessuno raggiunge i tre minuti di durata. Le 40 miniature musicali, sembra, abbiano comunque un filo conduttore e nel loro incedere ci ricordano Genesis e Gentle Giant. Il disco è comunque curato, e il gruppo raggiunge senz'altro l'obbiettivo prefissatosi. Voglio,quì, usare le parole dello stesso Crovella per meglio chiarire il concetto. - In Composing this album I've followed the idea of undertaking an exciting adventure in creating brief"progressive"composition,with birth,development and end in a very short time: the equivalent of a miniature, that's a complete picture, well defined in every detail, in a small space. At the same time I've felt the need of expanding some of my musical frontiers,using musical tools and moods in a way I have never tried before, without forgetting,as always, to put feeling before tecnique,emotions behind the notes. Theapproach to these 40 compositions was that every one of them should have its peculiar identity,sometime similar,other times completely different, to all the others. It's been a very long work,that took a great amount of time and I'd like to thank all the artists that contributed to it: from the vocal parts of Lalli, a singer from the Italian underground movement of the 80/90, to Miguel Angel Acosta a folk singer from Argentina,who contributed lyrics on"Reverdecerà",and to his "dreamin" son Lautaro; from the drumming of ex-companion in "Arti&Mestieri", Furio Chirico, to the drum parts of Charlie Morgan,Clyde Stubblefielf and Christen Jansson and Armando Borg on percussion: from the distorted guitar of Fabrizio Fratucelli, to the heartbeats of Coralie Rapa and Andrea Grosso;from the lyrics of italian poet Maurizio Perosa (with a tune in "Piemontese", my dialect) to the painter Pier Giuseppe Ocleppo, with his great ability to portray my mental images and expand them with his sensitivity; from my collaborator in Synergy, Mauro Loggia, always there to do the right thing at the right time, to Mr. Imago,Franco Vassia, the final scene-painter of the package of my progressive albums. Avete certamente visto qualche volta un caleidoscopio ,ed ammirato i meravigliosi colori che lo caratterizzano.
Con "In The Wake Of Evolution" i Kaipa hanno realizzato il primo impareggiabile caleidoscopio musicale. Le cascate di note delle tastiere di Hans Lundin e le note a grappoli delle chitarre di PerNilsson, sembrano infrangersi in una parete di cristallo puro. Il disco è suonato con autentica maestria(le qualità del gruppo sono indiscutibili) e con una sezione ritmica mai doma.
Ancora una volta gruppi come i Kaipa, ci ricordano che il progressive(quello vero,d'annata) è ancora vivo.
Questo è (se non lo avete ancora capito) un disco imperdibile.
Dopo 38 anni e la pubblicazione di un solo album " Per... un Mondo di Cristallo", ritornano quelli della RRR con questo nuovo lavoro "Il Pittore Volante". Nasce tutto da un'idea di Luciano Regoli,che,seguendo il fermento del Progressive nostrano, decide di rintracciare i componenti storici della band. Il progetto è stato facilitato ,in quanto Regoli aveva già scritto tutti i brani del futuro CD. Regoli si avvale anche della collaborazione di musicisti estranei alla vecchia RRR.
Il disco nonostante gli anni trascorsi , sembra essere il naturale successore di " Per...un mondo dicristallo" con un'anima anni '70, un carattere Hard-Prog,atmosfere epiche e sinfoniche e la voce splendida di Regoli che sembra non risentire degli anni trascorsi.
Il disco è uscito anche in confezione Box , contenente:CD,Disco,il libro al quale è ispirato "Il pittore volante" ed un quadro a grandezza vinile realizzato dallo stesso Regoli. E' ovviamente un edizione limitata per collezionisti, il costo e di circa 1.000,00 Euro. Chi è interessato può contattare la BTF che distribuisce il prodotto.
Ritorna finalmente un'attenzione seria dei media verso il progressive rock. Nel marzo di quest'anno vine pubblicata in inghilterra da 'Future' la prima copia della rivista 'Prog' curata dal famoso giornalista musicale Jerry Ewing, edita inizialmente come allegato alla già famosa "Classic Rock" per divenire in breve un must seguito sempre da un più crescente numero di appassionati fan. La rivista tratta artisti del passato, anche se non più in attività, ed artisti del presente.
Ciò ha rappresentato certamente uno stimolo per tanti gruppi vecchi e nuovi, che hanno continuato od iniziato a produrre album con una qualità sempre maggiore.
Tra gli esordi di quest'anno segnalo gli olandesi Leap Day con l'album "Awaking the Muse" eccellente prog sinfonico alla Flamborough Head, gli inglesi Vienna Circle ed IO Earth, rispettivamente con gli album "White Clouds" e "IO Earth", brillante New Prog moderno, i norvegesi Airbag che pubblicano il loro primo interessante album "Identity" strizzando l'occhio ai Pink Floyd 'sinfonici', ed ancora i tedeschi Subsignal con "Beautiful&Monstrous", superbo Neo Progarmonioso ed elettrico, ottimo debutto anche per gli australiani Anubis cheesordiscono con l'album "230503"soft new prog con delicate melodie e deliziosi intrecci strumentali, dagli States gli Astra con l'album "Weirding", psichedelic / space prog con l'inserimento di leggiadre trame melodiche, per finire, altro esordio di nota, quello dei multinazioni Parzival Eye con la loro prima gemma "Fragments".
Enorme numero di album da segnalare tra i gruppi che si confermano con la pubblicazione di un nuovo pregevole lavoro.
Non è più una sorpresa scoprire un nuovo capolavoro dal super gruppo Transatlantic, il nuovo disco "The Whirlwind" è un contenitore unico di suoni e trame progressive, disco da possedere a qualsiasi costo.
Al secondo posto, in questa classifica i redivivi Delirium che dopo 35 anni pubblicano il loro quarto album " In Nome del Vento", con lo stesso stile che li ha contraddistinti nei '70.
A seguire i francesi Nemo con il teatrale "Barbares" ed i Beardfish che confermano la loro freschezza compositiva anche con "Destined Solitaire", al quinto posto il decimo album in studio degli IQ "Frequency" ennesimo capolavoro che rinnova la magnificenza degli anni '80.
Il sesto posto è dei poliedrici norvegesi Wobbler che ci stupiscono ancora per la grande tecnica e forza compositiva espressa anche in questo nuovo album dal titolo "Afterglow".
Il settimo posto di questa mia personale classifica lo voglio consegnare al capolavoro "The Underfall Yard" degli inglesi Big Big Train che già si fa notare dal meraviglioso artwork disegnato da Jim Trainer , ma è la varietà degli strumenti inusuali utilizzati, sitar, violoncello, mandolino, trombone, corno francese etc...etc... che esalta tutta l'opera regalandoci un progressive nuovo ed elegante.
Seguono, i finlandesi Ageness - "Songs From The Liar's Lair", i norvegesi" Gazpacho - "Tick Tock", gli olandesi Mangrove - "Beyond Reality" etc...etc..., per finire, un plauso particolare spetta ai turchi Siddhartha per il loro album "Trip To Innerself" psychedelic / space rock spumeggiante con sintetizzatori spaziali e vuoti sonori surreali, riff di chitarra elettrica fluttuanti e potenti e sezione ritmica a dare forza a tutto l'enseble.
Di seguito, per un primo ascolto, tutti gli altri album qui sotto elencati certamente non meno interessanti di quelli citati in prima battuta.
